Unemployment hits 6 month high in U.S.August 5th, 2007
Hiring cooled off in July, pushing unemployment in the United States up to 4.6 percent, a six-month high. Labor Department figures also showed that new job creation slowed. Payrolls increased by 92,000 last month, the fewest monthly add-ons since February. Job losses in construction, manufacturing, retailing and by the government blunted gains in education and health care, professional and business services and leisure and hospitality. Even with the rise from 4.5 percent in June, the current rate is still low by historic standards.
